The Ely Walking Group was formed in, and has been walking, since 1985.  We are now into our 39th year and it is our proud boast that it has not cost any member one penny.

We are a very informal group, now with over 160 members, of local, like-minded walkers of all ages.  We meet on alternate Sundays throughout the year, come rain or shine, to walk together and enjoy the fresh air and the company of others that choose to walk that day.

There are no requirements to walk with us every fortnight, you simply turn up at the specified start point, by the advised start time, if you wish to join us on a walk that day but we do try to leave promptly.

The programme of walks, shown on this website, is updated on a regular basis and the detailed information for each walk is usually sent 7-10 days beforehand to our signed up members only. You must have an email account to receive these updates and to be a member.

All members participate at their own risk and are entirely responsible for themselves.

Walks are circular, usually around 6 - 8 miles long, and the start point can be 30 - 45 minutes drive from Ely, sometimes, rarely though, it can be a longer drive. We look to have a 10–15 minute break around the halfway point so bring your own food and drink. At the end of each walk we tend to visit a local pub and if you wish to join us, then you should bring a means of payment, either card, cash or both.

Each walk is led on a volunteer basis and all members are encouraged to share their own routes and lead a walk throughout the year but this is not compulsory in any way.

We also try to hold an annual Christmas dinner in January each year at an Ely restaurant.

If you have questions visit the FAQs page, if you still have unanswered questions, or if you wish to join us, the Contact or Join Us section will explain how to email the group co-ordinator.
